I've had success finding directories of chd's after searching for something with "archive" ".org" "ps1" "psx" and "chd" as possible search terms.

In retrospect, this now seems very obvious but thank you, this worked wonderfully.
Check r/roms megathread stickied at top
Vimms lair is a good choice, though i don't think they're in .chd by default, rather just .iso, or a compressed .iso format. It's highly consistent in naming conventions, and has a pretty damn near full collection. Main downside is limited downloading speed, and no concurrent downloads, but if you're just looking to download games you're interested in and not every ps1 game, it should be fine
Emudeck has a really nice tool to mass convert a folder to .chd and as far as the rims go I usually just go to the mega thread on /r/roms or you can go to vimm.com
Vimm.com, is that your digital marketing partner, or is it mine?
Oh whoops, it was vimm.net. My bad. I honestly wasn't sure. I figured Google would sort it out for anyone just typing in vimm
Why do you need chds instead Isos? not criticism, im just curious.
Probably for a MiSTer setup. It has a PlayStation core
download roms ffom here https://myrient.erista.me/files/No-Intro/Non-Redump%20-%20Sony%20-%20PlayStation/ and use namDHC, no other way, sorry
