Dang that's actually really sad. Omegle, for all its faults, was sort of like the weird alleyway that you could go to and know that you'd have some kind of interesting experience.

I'm sad to see it gone.

And one of the last major holdouts from web 1.0 :(

What? That's very much 2.0

How is an online chat not user-generated content?

A really powerful statement, and I completely understand their decision.

Agreed. Very well written. Clearly Leif is a person that should be a leader in the communication space. Its such a shame that we're losing him to this fight. :(

Wow, that’s a shock. RIP.

I’ll most miss the musicians spreading random delight. Those were always fun to watch.

Noooo! I was just on Omegle talking to strangers from around the world last week! I used it occasionally for a decade and had a lot of fun talking to people. This hurts.

Oddly, I found myself going back many times over the past 15 years or so. Something about the simplicity kept me going intrigued. Guess Trollegle/bellawhiskey, and whatever other chatrooms died as well

Aww man, that means no more furry omegle videos. Those were always funny to watch.

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 11 points 10 months ago

Ngl, those were some of my favorite videos during the COVID lockdown.

[–] b00m@kbin.social 16 points 10 months ago

That's a well written goodbye. Sad to see it go

Where will I find random penises to laugh at now?!

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Very nearly any other website, including this one.

[–] squiblet@kbin.social 11 points 10 months ago

That’s sad. I’m sorry for the girl and others who got molested over the internet but I don’t really see that as the sites fault. How about poor parental supervision? Just let an 11 year old use the internet with free reign and don’t notice when she’s sending a pedo photos for 3 years?

RIP, truly an end of an era

What will the Omegle prank Youtubers gonna do now?

[–] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 4 points 10 months ago

Lol damn, I didn't know it was still up.
