"Who called it the Guardian of Forever?"

"Well we don't know, actually. Academy scientists assume that it's some sort of life form that coalesced around the myriad beliefs of sentients regarding the understanding of time and adopted language to best fit their understanding."

"So it gave itself that nickname?"

"In a sense, yes."

"Like when me mate Paul had that ketamine and declared himself the Unstoppable Love God until the police wrestled him to the ground?"

"I... suppose you could say so."

"You reckon it should just be called a human name, instead then? Something silly like 'Carl'?"

In Discovery they explicitly show it going full Q when testing Georgiou, so it's entirely possible it allowed people to do stupid stuff as a test or a lesson.

I consider Discovery more of a fever dream than canon.

Your consideration is utterly irrelevant to a canonical discussion.

This place is really turning into the Star Trek subreddits with this circlejerk of "Nah not canon". Really starting to enjoy my time less and less and wondering why I'm even staying around this place when so many toxic (and frankly homophobic) takes there have been lately.

Edit: To clarify, no. Of course you're not being homophobic. I just mean that the energies listed above are becoming more pervasive and I'm just tired of this disingenuous behavior followed up immediately with "Oh nah I was just kidding, I wasn't being serious." Just done with this really negative and kinda bitchy behavior and gonna start blocking this in the future. I came to Lemmy to get away from reddit. Not to watch it get birthed again in front of my eyes.

Wtf dude? I think you took my comment way too seriously, I was just making a joke about the wild-ass plot lines in that show.

I didn't come here to dump an essay on Discovery so I'll just say I really don't appreciate being lumped in with homophobes because I don't like a particular iteration of the star trek universe as much as you do.

You go ahead and enjoy your galactic fungus networks and "red angels" and such all you want, I'm not gonna hate on you for liking it. I just don't get it and you can't make me, lol

Threshold teaches us that star trek can be both.

I can't understand why everyone hates Discovery. It's so much fun. It has good story. It has some great characters. Why does everyone bag it out on here?

'Carl' suggests that Georgiou actually did change that timeline though, doesn't he?

The guardian of forever was discovered just a few hundred years after the release of unrelated Belgian techno anthem, pump up the jam
