I'm confused by the picture being a lionfish rather than a firefish.

Every time I hear this word firefish, I cannot help but be reminded of the phrase "turds of the firefish", which appears quite randomly in one of Orson Scott Card's novels.

If nothing else, the article is great for a breakdown of the features of Firefish. I've been a user for 2-3 months and didn't know a lot of the info covered.

On a related note, I was on firefish.social but it was very buggy for me after a while. Thought about throwing in the towel but eventually realized that it was instance specific.

I have since migrated to calckey.world (Calckey -> Firefish instance that didn't change its name) and the experience has been buttery smooth.

I'm also experiencing a lot of issues with firefish.social instance, still looking at some other small instances to migrate for the time being before maybe moving back. Based on https://joinfirefish.org/join/ and the dev update versions it looks like it's still an alpha server, hopefully it won't push away users since it is the flagship instance. I like it over Mastodon.

Yeah I like it over Mastodon as well. The UI/UX feels more modern. The only downside is that the majority of the Twitter-alternative fediverse is on Mastodon, so I have to run 90% of accounts through 'search' to follow them.

The article does touch on some of the main instance's issues towards the bottom too I just found out.

I didn't particularly like Firefish.

I haven't tried it, but anything that's interoperable is fine by me.

Or another endangered spiece by the climate change.

You don't have to worry about Firefishes, they are thriving. Someplace even a bit to well

I use an instance that runs a fork of firefish, and it's awesome! The standard firefish experience is just a bit more appealing to me than mastodon
