Donald Trump’s New York fraud trial will continue next week after an appeals court rejected the former president’s latest bid to halt proceedings.

Lawyers for Trump had argued that the court should wait for an appeal on a pre-trial ruling before moving forward. The trial started on Monday.

In a ruling last week, New York judge Arthur Engoron found the former president and others working for the Trump Organization guilty of financial fraud. Engoron ordered the dissolution of Trump’s companies in the state, effectively ending his ability to run his real estate business.

Trump is being sued by the New York attorney general, Letitia James, for creating false and misleading financial statements to broker deals.

In their request to halt the trial, Trump’s lawyers had said the dissolution would “unquestionably inflict severe and irreparable harm not only to [Trump and other defendants] but to innocent nonparties and employees who depend on the affected entities for their livelihoods”.

It warms my cold black heart hearing that his stalling tactics aren’t working anymore.

His lawyers stalling tactics, because that's literally their job.

The man can't even form a complete sentence let alone devise a legal strategy.

But, I'm happy that it's not working regardless of the source.

Some of them aren't. The corrupt judge he installed in Florida succeeded in delaying the espionage case.

No.. the dissolution won't do that. Trump did that.

If you're still working at a Trump property in 2023...

It's beyond my grasp how anyone would work for him. Cleaners, gardeners, administration and misc. assistants.

Why'd they risk working for that old demented broke ass low balling lying son of an ugly bitch?

The dude is mentally gone. "Let's vote for him.".... No?

The longer her stays out of prison, the more crimes he will commit.

[–] Poppa_Mo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Yep. He's been doing it his whole life.

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

True. This particular trial is a civil one however, so prison is not a possible outcome.

Personally I think he's committed enough.

Trump: STOP NEW YORK I WANNA GET OFF

New York: i can't hear you, did you say "faster"?

What's this? The sweet satisfying sound of a con-man finally having to lie in the bed he shit in? What a lovely sound.

Now that's an amusing version of reality, ain't it?

Donald Trump casts himself as a protector of workers and jobs, but a USA TODAY NETWORK investigation found hundreds of people – carpenters, dishwashers, painters, even his own lawyers – who say he didn’t pay them for their work.

Give all those former employees all Trump's money. Problem solved.
