Is it just me, does the brown mine remind any one of the Lego coins in the video games?

I think those are the triggers/fuses (fuzes?)

If you look at the larger ones, it looks like they have a "socket" in the top for the smaller brown bits to fit in

That's correct. Those 'lego' pieces are the fuses removed from the mines to disarm them.

It's not the slickest production, but gives you an idea of what they're up against in terms of the demining task ahead of them, and the lack of resources they're facing.

Pretty much all of their equipment and even boots are bought with donations, not funding from the Ukrainian government.
