I mean, i'm not objecting to Cudi in the slightest but i remain extremely confused by what is occuring here.

I'm not sure either, it looks to be a game, clothes(?) and a song(?) I'm not sure...

Sounds like this Cudi fellow has written a song about star Trek. I hope it's as good as The Firm's song about Star Trek. Weird that Paramount would be so into it instead of threatening to sue.

I think they're OK with it because they did it with an agreement instead of a fan project (?)

I've heard of Kid Cudi, but I'm not familiar with his music. That's not a reflection on Kid Cudi. I'm not familiar with anyone's music, as I stopped keeping up with music some time ago. It's good that Paramount is trying something else to bring in new Star Trek fans. Most of Paramount's promotion of Star Trek seemed to be preaching to the choir (promoting Star Trek to existing fans of Star Trek). This doesn't set my heart aflutter like an announcement of a Moopsy plush would, but as a long time Star Trek fan I don't think I'm the target of this promotion.

This seems like a completely arbitrary marketing campaign or has there been any relation between that musician and Star Trek in the past? No thank you, I am not interested at all.

From last month's announcement:

"I grew up watching Star Trek with my dad who is single handedly responsible for turning me into a fan,” said Mescudi. “The most important thing to me is to be as authentic as possible. Star Trek’s mission has always been about having a hopeful future and when I was first approached about this project it was the perfect marriage of all the things I believe in – being brave and a hero by doing what’s right and fighting for freedom. I can’t wait to share my love of this incredible franchise with the world.”

Thank you for posting. I see that you honestly tried to answer my actually pretty rhetoric question. That is nice of you and I respect your kind behaviour. However - I still don´t see how this person is more relevant for star trek than any of us is. We all grew up watching it and we all love star trek. There seems to be nothing about that musicians connection to the show that would justify a feature like this afaik.

[–] ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Why does it need "justification"? What would it mean to be "more relevant to Star Trek than any of us"?

[–] PutangInaMo@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I love his music, and I love star trek. That's all the connection I need to be happy about this.

Well if you know this musician and love his music it´s obvious why you are happy about the collaboration with ST and I am happy for you. When trying to understand my reaction please consider that unlike you, there are also Star Trek fans who are not interested in "Kid Cudi" at all.

[–] PutangInaMo@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Sorry the franchise didn't cater to your unique needs and interests this one time...

[–] Nacktmull@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

I was polite and friendly to everyone, just stated how I personally feel and think. I even wrote how happy I am for you because you happen to like ST and KC, so there is really no reason for you to get snarky towards me. Please leave your toxic tendencies on reddit.

[–] PutangInaMo@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The tone I picked up from your other comments led me to believe you were definitely heading in the toxic direction. Very self centered and condescending. But if I read that wrong I will apologize.

[–] Nacktmull@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Interesting, I was not aware of that. Can you please quote everything I wrote that you perceived as toxic and let me know what made it seem toxic to you, so I can hopefully improve my tone in the future?
