Republicans are more concerned with dress code and fake impeachment than keeping the government open.

[–] Nougat@kbin.social 39 points 1 year ago

I get what you're saying here ... but:

This is the Senate. The "impeachment inquiry" (with the strongest fucking air quotes I can muster) is in the House. It's the House that's holding up the budget; the Senate has passed multiple spending bills in recent days, with overwhelming bipartisan support.

Chuck Schumer did this.

With help from his homies Manchin and Romney

(Edit: you can downvote it but that’s exactly what it says.)

Government isn't functioning and is about to shut down, but our representatives can agree that the Senate must maintain the traditional theatrical appearance of competence and authority. Priorities.

theatrical appearance of competence and authority

No, no, no. It's maintaining the visage of wealth (which is also authority). It has nothing to do with looking impressive or competent, and everything to do with signalling what economic class you're supposed to come from to belong there.

Older people are really into uniforms signifying social position.

The Senate already handed the house their part of the project. McCarthy refuses to put it up to a vote because the far right terrorists will call for a motion to have McCarthy removed as speaker.

THAT SAID: yeah the Senate could be spending their time getting other legislation passed before McCarthy shuts down the government.

Wow they sure move fast on the important issues!

[–] DLSchichtl@lemmy.world 37 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Im gonna say it. Fetterman needs facial hair.

[–] teft@startrek.website 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

LOL he looks like Kevin from the Office in the pic without facial hair. I think he looks good with the mustache though.

[–] DLSchichtl@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I personally was a fan of the beard. Made him feel more imposing. Normally not a desirable trait in a Senator, but seeing as how he likes to fuck with the conservatives, and how literally their base takes masculinity and power, I think it worked. But at the end of the day, I back the person, not the facial hair.

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Lol that pic is crazy.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Yeah but reckanize that he did it because they made him wear a suit.

I totally get that was a “f**k you” shave.

And three posts above this one on my feed:

US poor face economic hit as shutdown, childcare cliff, student loans converge

[–] ZekeSulastin@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 year ago

In complete fairness the Senate is actually working on the shutdown - their last vote on a CR package passed 77-19 (all nays were R) but McCarthy in the House is rejecting it outright.

Government shutting down: I sleep

Man not wearing a tie: REAL SHIT

[–] TheJims@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dry handjobs in public are still A-OK👍

[–] norbert@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Only if there are kids around and your tits are being groped.

[–] TheJims@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

That costs extra

[–] badbytes@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Finally, decorum in politics restored.

[–] Late2TheParty@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Crap! Now where am I supposed to go for my fix of Fetterman's sweet calves?!?!

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Just fucking make it a standard uniform designed by hugo boss. FFS.

[–] Rapidcreek@reddthat.com 4 points 1 year ago

He told his colleagues that if he spoke or voted in the well, he would wear a suit, and if he was wearing his usual garb, he'd vote from the cloak room. Democracy is saved.

[–] dingleberry@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 year ago

Is this news?

[–] Neato@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Can we help people even a little? Nope.

But we can institute a classist dress code. Makes sense...

[–] LesserAbe@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

As a former "not dressing up for church" activist myself, Senator Fetterman has my full support.

[–] TheJims@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Fetterman skips leg day
