One of the things I dont like about the current federation system is how subscribed counts for communities only show people from your own instance. This can be kinda misleading and makes Lemmy look less alive than it actually is.
Your suggestion is somewhat related to that issue. I've thought about integrating a 3rd party service before, but not sure how I'd go about it. I'll have to investigate their API to see how doable this is
