General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

Makes sense all round. This should be introduced nationally.

Reminds me of this Simpsons quote

"55? That's ridiculous! Sure, it'll save a few lives, but millions will be late!"

20 is just SO SLOW.i find myself more distracted at 20 because it's so so so slow and I start looking around.

But you can't argue with the stats. If it saves lives that's good. We're already one of the safest nations for driving, and this will make it moreso.

It's a bit of a pain in my diesel which I end up revving higher in a lower gear (especially on hills). But this won't be a problem when we eventually replace it with an electric car.

Seems like there is broad support for this, though I find it personally annoying as my car really wants to be above 20 in 3rd gear.

Nice to see the Tories doing something I agree with for a change

Welsh Labour government introduced this

Tories are not the party when it comes to intelligence. I really cannot understand anyone who sees it as a good thing to support them.

Does Wales not use metric? Why mph?

[–] Mex@feddit.uk 21 points 1 year ago

Because the UK uses mph for road speeds...
