Can this "feature" be removed or deactivated somehow? I guess not because that would be too convenient.

Hah I guess with channels, you can at least choose not to subscribe to any. Not the case for stories, which are always shown whether you want it or not. I've resorted to manually muting stories from most of my contacts.

That is true and I have also muted a ton of my less-than-friend-level contacts in regards to stories. But that nag screen to subscribe to channels seems so terribly gauche.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

WhatsApp announced today that it is expanding its Channels feature, aimed towards broadcasted messages, globally.

Additionally, personal information of your account such as your phone number won’t be visible to admins or followers.

With the global launch, WhatsApp will have an improved directory to find channels based on your country.

The company said that notable additions to channels with the global launch are Olivia Rodrigo, David Guetta, Billboard, MLB, and of course, Zuck.

Last November, the company launched Communities to facilitate multi-group communication for places like schools, resident complexes, or clubs.

Last month, WhatsApp launched a feature to let you create groups without naming them with a cap of six people.

The original article contains 392 words, the summary contains 111 words. Saved 72%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

Yes. More bloat to the app with unrequired features. It just doesn't feel like a chat app to me anymore.

The August update fucked this app up with shitty, slow-ass animations, and now this? Damn it, WhatsApp. Meta ought to bloat everything it seems.
