A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Random twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Low Hanging Fruit thread.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. These include Social media screenshots with a title punchline / no punchline, recent (after the start of the Ukraine War) reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Low effort thread instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

This thread is where all the takes from idiots (looking at you Armchair Warlord) and screenshots of twitter posts/youtube thumbnails go.

someone at RT is having second thoughts maybe perhaps

[–] Epilektoi_Hoplitai@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're just going to blame it on the Ukrainians, and/or "the collective west" to muddy the waters

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

especially if it was really a bomb planted on plane, not a SAM

but would it change much? priggo's enemies have safety in numbers

[–] Epilektoi_Hoplitai@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

True. I'd say this disinfo angle is targeted towards apathetic/low info RU public (which is most of them frankly) and western sympathisers in denial about how ruthless the regime really is.

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i've read an analysis where the result was that ru propaganda machine pushes many contradictory narratives for "enemy" audience (like eu countries) and single, coherent narrative for "friendly" audience (like domestic but also serbia). that single narrative doesn't have to be true of course

[–] Epilektoi_Hoplitai@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Sounds about right. The internal narrative is to actually tell people what to think, the external just the "firehose of falsehood" to divide and distract.

Guys, we're probs gonna get brigated by the Hexbear users soon, checked their voting thread for the re-federation, and a lot have been expressing their intent to "discuss" with us. Luckily I'm on Feddit, which is already defederated, so none of the logged in bears can interact with me

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i haven't seen anything of that, at any rate rest assured i ban all campists that i notice

[–] Katzastrophe@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Good to know, and considering the vote for defederation going on right now it will luckily stay that way

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago

i don't mind them, they seem to be chill people in general

[–] Estiar@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yep just moved over to World for that exact reason. Meanwhile on Grad is having a field day today

Maybe I should read biographies first before I post
