a supplement to our Discord server
I, for one, have been hoping for "replacement" instead of "supplement" (for Free Software reasons), but baby steps, I guess!

Pretty wild to complain to a team that runs a lemmy and mastodon instance about not doing enough for FOSS.
I've heard a reason for choosing Discord is the good moderation tools. I don't know enough to comment on that so I just hope that free software alternatives improves their moderation tools.
When you value software freedom for yourself and others then it's actually pretty dull and obvious to express concern. It's like a coworker just started smoking.
It's weird to rely on proprietary when you can use Matrix spaces.
Wake me up when we have an (ActivityPub+Jitsi) Discord replacement.
ActivityPub really can't do what discord does.
Matrix, however...
Is there any way to follow the updates without being logged into Mastodon? I don't know if it's mostly my user error that I can't follow. I do know that we can't really communicate towards them, but is following not an option as well?
I believe there is a RSS option. Try https://mastodon.world/@lemmyworld.rss
I know RSS has been around basically forever, but Iβve never bothered to learn how to use them.
What do I do with this rss link you provided? Is there n app or something to add this to that pushes alerts/notifications when thereβs a new post or something?
@timespace @jelloeater85 thereβs plenty of good RSS readers, both desktop and web apps, and you can plug it into them.
I think Kbin gets Mastadon content.
It does!
You should be able to follow it at @LemmyWorld, but I'm not sure how the interaction between Lemmy and Mastodon works for following users. They haven't posted anything yet of course, so for now it'll look empty.
If you want to follow the account without being logged in to the fediverse at all, a good option is the RSS feed. :)
You can theoretically follow them anywhere on the Fediverse.
What's your aversion to Mastodon?
Probably just didn't want to have to make yet another account
When it comes to for-profit companies, I wholeheartedly agree, as there is very little chance 100% of my activity on that site won't be sold to data-brokers. When it comes to most Fediverse stuff, I am not so worried. Use an email alias and a pseudonym.
I have tried making an account on mastodon many times but I get a constant error saying wrong time zone error even though there's no option for me to enter a time zone. Any one know if that's an operating system or phone issue? I'm using a pixel 5.
What instance are you trying to sign up to? Have you tried making an account on desktop?
Change the instance bro
You love to see it.
Great news, thanks!
