China's COVID numbers being so low suggests that they're not even trying to pretend they're telling the truth. It isn't like they're the only ones putting politics before the health of their people, but their consistent deception re a global pandemic is concerning to say the least.

So about 1/3 per capita compared to the US?

Well the government misrepresenting the figures is also a big part of the article but that also happened in the US. They also anonymously quote a source who "fears government retaliation" for speaking out. Something which actually happened to a whistleblower in Florida.

But hey, China Bad.

To be fair though, just because something bad happened in one country doesn't mean that now it's fair game in all the other countries to do the same bad thing.

I feel like there’s a bit of false equivalency too, a state gov retaliating isn’t the same as a federal gov retaliating.

As fucky as shit is in this country I'd rather live here than China and plenty of Chinese friends of mine who left would never go back.

Uhh, the thing spread as fast as it did literally because they lied and tried to cover it up.

China bad.

Ah I didn't realize that.

I feel like the zero-covid policy could have worked if they had used an mRNA vaccine and vaccinated the elderly.

Thats like saying "I feel like eating plums should cure cancer, if you also take chemo and the rest of the treatments recommended by your doctor."

They developed their own vaccine but it was a bit of a dud.
