Be careful, This is extremely graphic. It's also sad to think this guy could have lived an happy life, but Putin decided for him.

People really need to understand that Putin isn't the root cause of the problems with Russia. They've been a brutal and imperialist state for centuries; Putin is a symptom, not the cause.

He's not the one setting up torture sites in every occupied town, and he's not the one doing the torturing, murdering and raping.

@interolivary @flyingsquirrel

And in history it was always like that. Russia was called Gendarme de l'Europe!

[–] interolivary@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yup, exactly, this isn't a new thing.

I'm in the first generation in my family for 100 years not to be either actively fighting Russian invaders or being persecuted by them because someone in the family fought them.

@interolivary
IMHO, Ukrainian propaganda is working badly, do not remind the peoples three things. 1st, generally, how awful and ugly the Russian was, how many people were killed due to existing this empire; 2dly, the main enemy of this empire was always Ukraine; 3d, the Russian Empire should be ruined. These theses should be broadcasting all time, as Cato the Elder repeated the phrase 'Delenda est Carthago'.

I hate posts like this. Chances are the dude didn't want to be there in the first place but didn't have a choice. He wanted out so bad he ate a grenade. Another senseless casualty in this stupid invasion...

Okay, but the choice was only in how he dies. He likely didn't have an effective or practical way to avoid getting conscripted, and attempting to surrender or defect means he likely gets shot in the back by his own officers or noncoms. Or he can fight, and possibly survive, but maybe he believes that to be morally despicable. Maybe he was already injured, and knew that there was no significant chance of a medevac, and so ended his own life quickly rather than waiting to bleed out or die from infection.

Surrender and desertion are always choices. And while there's a risk of death when trying to surrender or defect, that means there's a chance he will live.

He's responsible for his own actions. Now he owned up to them.

I can't even imagine feeling the desperation this guy felt, or maybe guilt. What a fucking shitshow...

[–] interolivary@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

Hopefully not guilt; it'd be better if the ones capable of feeling guilt for their actions actually survived this bullshit
