Imagine if that energy was spent folding proteins for medical research, or crunching numbers for particle accelerators so we can understand the universe.

The power consumption of crypto currencies is a problem. For comparison, just to have the full picture, I'd love to see how much energy Visa and MasterCard use for their servers.

Definitely way less per user/transaction.

There are probably a billion transactions daily with tens of millions of users, while the daily crypto users is only half a million. https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/how-many-bitcoin-users/
