they're also not the only group like this out there, is the other part. for the past few years it's become increasingly common for similar organized (and unorganized) militia-type groups to do this stuff. it was infamously a point of hysteria during Oregon's 2020 wildfires that antifa were setting wildfires, for example, and many right-wing and far-right cranks teamed up to block roads and "protect their property" accordingly. i know similarly ideological groups have been observed giving aid during and after California's wildfires too
