Alexandrite is an interesting development. Being able to choose from multiple UIs is nice, but mostly we just need to have good defaults that appeal to a broad audience.

That's again assuming Lemmy wants to pursue growth of course. If Lemmy wants to optimize for existing users who prefer things the way they are, that's a different story.

Well, arguable the way the fediverse grows and survives is through options, freedom and flexibility. Defaults matter, of course, but you can't make everyone happy all the time.
