It had been in the works for a while, but now it has formally been adopted. From the article:

The regulation provides that by 2027 portable batteries incorporated into appliances should be removable and replaceable by the end-user, leaving sufficient time for operators to adapt the design of their products to this requirement.

๐Ÿคž that corps will decide that it's more profitable to make one device for the whole world that complies with EU regulations, rather than making a removable battery version for the EU and one without for the rest of the world, but realistically, yeah, we're gonna need this to have standard enforced globally.
