A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I completely get it, along with all the folks saying they don’t, won’t, can’t sell their Tesla. I’m also going to flip off every single Tesla I see on the road unless something seriously changes. I’ve spent most of my life with my head in the sand, first time ever donating to politics was sending Harris a weeks pay after she announced following Biden’s disaster debate. I was obviously part of the problem. Since the election I’ve cut out my family, have one friend left, and my wife and kids. I also flip off everyone in my development that had up Trump signs anytime I see them. I’m not going to actively destroy someone else’s property but I’d defend anyone that does. I’m privileged, my breaking point is different, the least I can do is show I’m not another bigot in this backwater country by ensuring my disdain for their hatred is understood. Fuck all of them and the symbolism’s of hate they have built. Even if I somehow found myself in a Tesla I’d at a minimum still be flipping off every one of them I saw on the road and hope every person I passed returned the favor so I’d know where they stood. Fuck them and fuck anyone carrying around their symbol of hatred hiding behind their veil of privilege.
Maybe try joining an activist or mutual aid group? Or even just serving food in a soup kitchen?
Flipping people off might feel good, but it isn't helping the country, and it doesn't sound like it's helping you, either.
Get involved in your community. Go out and meet some people.
It doesn’t take anymore energy than lifting a wave, which was my prior default. I have started to get involved, I’m just not going to turn a blind eye to anyone anymore.
Honestly it sounds like you need to take a step back and reevaluate the meaning of your life. Flipping off Tesla's and Trump signs really doesn't do anything meaningful. You can hate Trump without it taking over your entire life. Also prioritizing politics over family feels very questionable to me. At the end of the day hating Trump is not more important that the ones you love.
It hasn’t taken over my life. I have a strong foundation, and people who love me whom I love that aren’t bigots. Everything is politics when politics, so that’s a nonsense statement. I appreciate you sharing your concern from behind your veil.
This is incredibly sad, and I feel so sorry for you.
So much impotent rage.
Don't feel sorry for that guy. He's a hero. The only way for evil to take hold in any situation is for good men to do nothing (quote by Edmund Burke).
What are they actually DOING, though?
It sounds like the only thing this person is doing is hating around the clock.
LOL
The implication of that quote is that the "good men" are doing something good, not doing anything at all. I don't see how running around with your middle finger in the air improves anything, and it could be argued it does the opposite.
What is he supposed to do? At least he is letting the world know what he thinks. That's something. Someone once told me that if you aren't pissed off then you are not paying close attention. I don't know about that. I prefer to be in good humour but sometimes I shake my head in anger and helplessness, so I can empathize.
Are you joking? Yes. You're trolling me. Ha-ha, you got me, you crazy troll, you!
Now, if you were serious, I would say: Join an activist group. Call his representatives. Create or enlist in a mutual aid organization. Help out at a soup kitchen. Run for office. Those are just a few off of the top of my head. I could think of dozens more if I wanted to take the time.
I'm not joking and I am not a troll. I'm a billy goat, and I'm gruff. You shouldn't call people names or attach attributes to them, worry about your own stance. There are lots of good citizen actions one can take but there is nothing wrong with getting angry when it is warranted. Sometimes a good "Fuck you" goes way further than cold calling organizations for donations, etc. There are enough people dong that already and we are still travelling a downward path. Maybe God will save us. Maybe the government will save us. Maybe you?
Huh? There are not enough people doing that already, and that is why we are traveling on a downward path.
That's like saying "I have plenty of money, but I'm still broke".
