It had been in the works for a while, but now it has formally been adopted. From the article:

The regulation provides that by 2027 portable batteries incorporated into appliances should be removable and replaceable by the end-user, leaving sufficient time for operators to adapt the design of their products to this requirement.

Man I love seeing the EU fighting against corporations for sustainability. How about bringing back the headphone jack? I refuse to buy a phone without one.

Even though I use Bluetooth a lot now, I still find uses for my headphone jack especially when travelling. For anyone wondering, Sony still makes a great flagship with a great headphone jack and removable storage

I love the Sony line so much but I’ve never pulled the trigger on one because they have a terrible history of android updates. I’m so tired of dropping so much money on android phones just to sit around on old, outdated software. The android rom community isn’t like it used to be and the Sonys have always been too niche and expensive with proprietary camera tech to drive a vibrant custom scene. Maybe Project Treble will solely start changing things but I’m not holding my breath.

If Sony actually marketed their phones, dropped some of the features like a notch or two, and slashed prices for a few years to build a base I think they’d dominate the android scene.

I have both wired and wireless headphones and I find uses for both. When I'm walking around the house doing chores, I mostly use Bluetooth headphones. But I need the option to be able to plug into an AUX every once in a while.

Why not buy USB-C headphones?

[–] Holyhandgrenade@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because I already own good quality headphones with a jack cable and buying a new pair that I can only connect to my phone feels needlessly wasteful.
I'm also a musician and I like being able to listen to stuff on my phone with IEMs when practicing to protect my hearing. No Bluetooth headphones provide adequate hearing protection AFAIK.

I don't know if this helps you at all & I don't know what gear you're using, but Shure has a bluetooth receiver for their line of in ear monitors that plugs directly into the buds. It's called 'true wireless'. I have an old discontinued RMCE-BT2 model that works great and fidelity is indistinguishable from wired, to my ears, at least as far as connecting it to a phone goes. The new model is expensive unfortunately, so I don't know that it really solves your problem, but it's convenient & I can recommend it if it's within your budget and compatible with your gear.

Ive used other bluetooth attachments for other iems like TRN and KZ with my iems

Use it wired on my laptop and wireless outside
