I've never heard of "GiveSendGo", and who is d4legalcomm@gmail.com (the email address listed on the GiveSendGo page)? The fact that it's some random Gmail is kinda sketchy. Are we sure this is legit?

Wikipedia explains who they are very well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GiveSendGo

GiveSendGo is a Christian crowdfunding website.[5] GiveSendGo has attracted controversy for allowing far-right extremists to fundraise, including neo-Nazis, white supremacists and hate groups.[15]

They have also had multiple security breaches.

[–] dan@upvote.au 11 points 1 week ago

PayPal suspended payments to GiveSendGo because it was raising funds for people who had participated in the 2021 United States Capitol attack

oh... oh no.

Unfortunately probably the only such site that might host such a fundraiser

[–] WeUnite@lemm.ee 4 points 1 week ago

I get what you mean there. I hope they have improved their security since then.

It's probably not legit, which is why I'm holding off until his public defender gives official information about any potential donations.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If it's probably not legit, why did you post it?

[–] Olgratin_Magmatoe@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Because the fact that this knock off gofundme exploded so quick is itself news.

No. In an interview the attorney seemed to not be interested in accepting donations.
