Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Looks like Ubuntu will be going the way of Reddit
Ubuntu has never been the distribution for someone who cares about the package manager. Ubuntu's identity has always been to make a clean desktop that is user-friendly, with focus on new users.
If you have a strong opinion about deb or snap, you are probably not using Ubuntu.
With the recent change to Debian, a lot of people are probably going to switch from Ubuntu to Debian. Diversity isn't a bad thing, and I don't think it changes why Ubuntu has become successful, there are a lot of people who want the desktop experience that Ubuntu offers.
