Operation Unthinkable should have happened. It would have meant millions more deaths right after WW II, but it would have prevented decades more of Russian oppression in the Soviet "republics" (ie. their colonies).

It was our last chance to unfuck Russia, but now that they have nuclear weapons, they're going to be a threat to the rest of the world for as long as they exist.

I never realised what it was called but have always thought that we should never have stopped when we did. Yes it would have been costly in loss of personnel (civ and military) and expensive but think of all the suffering and money saved by not having a Soviet Union.
