From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I love Linux just like the next guy and have had several installations of NixOS to toy around.

I confess I was taken by suprise to stumble across the linked article and am not sure what to make of it.

Was someone more closely involved and can shed some light into this? Because, to be honest, I don't feel very informed on that matter and what to make of it...

Stopped reading after "Lunduke".

I'm not familiar with Lunduke. Could you elaborate?

Lunduke used to be decently popular in the Linux space. He worked for openSUSE and did a yearly "Linux Sucks" presentation about things Linux could improve on.

But many think he's went off the deep end in recent years. Anti-vax, US election denying, basically against anything "woke".

He's an old time Linux guy who went off the deep end and became a conspiracy theorist. He's one of those people who cries about things "becoming political" just because people decide to make a statement about being inclusive of LGBT folks in their code of conduct.

He's also been caught just straight up lying about things in his various "investigations."

Here's a long video on some of it if you are interested: Video on Lunduke

I hadn't seen any of his talks or content in a while so I was pretty sad to see how he stood on the recent Godot bans (shockingly opening GitHub issues containing slurs directed at the developers gets you banned from interacting with their project! Who'da thunk it?) and then seeing his comment section full of varying levels of dogwhistle to the rhetoric

Edit to add: in hindsight his slide into conspiracy definitely explains why I've gotten weird vibes off of his previously very good content

This read and feels like right wing propaganda, describing antifa as a violent terrorist group who claims responsibility for riots is almost funny.

A cursory search only brought up this same article copy-pasted to 4 different websites starting in June, and zero other mentions anywhere else of topic outside links to those 4 articles.
