UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

It doesn't even have to be due to it. If a pensioner doesn't turn on their heating then its Labours fault even if the pensioner could have afforded it.
Or if the pensioner did have the heating on but it hadn't been serviced and they still died from the cold, you know the rags will spin it. Labour cuts fuel allowance and old dears die. Its not sketchy phrasing, its predictable Tory spin.
Are you honestly proposing that an increase in cold related deaths beyond expected levels during a cold snap is more likely to be explained by thousands of OAP's just happening to forget to turn the heating on, rather than them not being able to afford it?
No, I'm suggesting that any death will be announced as an attempt of the government to murder the elderly.
As it always has, and always will be.
Ok, why aren't the papers already full of those stories then? Old people die all the time. If the stories are guaranteed regardless of the governments actions, why are you bothered about the optics at all? They're going to be the same no matter what.
