Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Anti-science, inactivism, and unsupported conspiracy theories are not ok here.

We're gonna

We're gonna

We're gonna

We're all gonna die

Thing is, how bad it gets is still very much a human decision. Just because we haven't done enough yet doesn't mean we can't.

I don't know for sure what's going to happen in the future, but we have a lot of power as individuals to put our thumb on the scale in favor of more action instead of less.

I don’t know about lots of power. I don’t want to be defeatist, I vote for survival and I do what’s in my power to spare the planet but hope eludes me. I’m starting to make peace with the fact that humanity will be facing the music soon.

Hey, you,

Feed the machine,

Bring 'em all back down to their knees.

No time to waste,

Remind the slaves,

They ain't gonna make it out alive today.

The overlords have already decided what they are doing. They've built countless bunkers and stocked them. They continue their extraction past the point of exhaustion. No one believes me, and everyone downvotes me. But we will ride this until the options are: deindustrialize, or die. Its too late to miracle our way out of here. We aren't slowing down fast enough.

The accelerationists have yet to figure out how to stop their guards from just taking all their shit for themselves when they can no longer be bought with money.

So at least we've got that going for us, which is nice.

Its not much of a consolation prize. I'd rather us take extreme action within the next 5 years.
