That sounds like something wasn't right with your SKSE installation. Version mismatch? Files in the wrong places? A conflicting file somewhere?
For help diagnosing crashes, post the crash log in a pastebin or gist! SKSE should write logs if it gets far enough along. And for crash logs from SKSE plugins, use this crashlogger.
I already replaced SKSE with the correct version, as i had doubts about that, before I posted. Didn't matter. But I did some more searching and found that the GOG handles the plugin file differently than steam. And vortex has been updated for that, but i can't seem to find anything about MO2 having done the same, so maybe that's it?
Second this.
Sometimes for whatever reason the file may not download correctly. Redownloading and installing helps. I've been using Blunt and Blade on my current playthrough and haven't had any problems. This has happened to me a few times.
And Crash Logger is definitely a life saver. Most of the time it'll tell you exactly what's messed up. Makes troubleshooting big load orders easier to figure out.
