Vice-president brushes off remarks by Donald Trump in which he said Harris ‘happened to turn Black’ a number of years ago

Kamala Harris has shrugged off Donald Trump’s questioning of her racial identity, saying that it was “the same old show” and that “America deserves better”, at a rally in Texas.

On Wednesday, in an appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), Trump antagonised senior Black journalists and questioned Harris’s race, saying, “She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn Black.”

His interview, which was meant to last an hour, according to Axios, was cut short after 34 minutes.

i don't understand. what does he think he gains if he were to actually convince people that she's only "pretending to be black"? it sounds like the only reason he even went to that event was to get more votes from racists who were already going to vote for him..whatever. fucking moron

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 35 points 3 months ago (1 children)

... what does he think...

That's the secret: he doesn't.

[–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.melroy.org 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

He doesn't have that thing in his head we all have to tell him what he is about to say is fucking stupid. It's a direct path from brain to mouth.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

Ironically, that is also the secret to his success because his moronic cultists perceive it as "authentic".

[–] DoctorWhookah@sh.itjust.works 21 points 3 months ago (2 children)

His people arranged it and told him to go, otherwise he would have never been there. Someone in his camp decided it was a good idea.

"mr dear leader majesty sir, we really need to bring up the black vote numbers"

"easy, i'll just tell them harris won't do anything for them because she's not actually black!"

"um..there are multiple problems with that argument sir..."

"shut up and get me a happy meal"

"shut up and get me a happy meal"

This is just unrealistic, Big Macs don't come as a happy meal lol

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Close, but he doesn't need them to vote for him. He just needs them NOT to vote for Harris.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

The best people, to be sure

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

I think this is just his narcissism, racism, and sexism all fighting it out for top billing.

[–] vzq@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 months ago

what does he think he gains if he were to actually convince people that she's only "pretending to be black"?

It means horrible attacks against her aren’t racism. It’s a permission slip to his followers to be racist to her.

[–] PorradaVFR@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

He’s not going to win on ideas, policy or record against her but if the narrative becomes “she lied about her race” those issues aren’t in the narrative.

He’s an awful human being but he’s media savvy.

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

if the narrative becomes “she lied about her race”

true. keep everyone on the defensive and make them waste time debunking bullshit

but he’s media savvy.

gotta disagree. he's an awful human being and his cult followers are just dumb enough to lap up all his bullshit like hogs at the trough

[–] PorradaVFR@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Thats the thing - he knows how to shovel the BS.

He has the rubes thinking that a guy who literally shits on a gold toilet understands and gives a shit about them. They think he's tough when he's an epic whiner…he knows how to con people and the media just parrots his shit because ratings matter more than truth and he knows it.

[–] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I think it might matter to black voters? I'm only trying to seriously answer your question.

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 months ago

i'm sure. but here's an old white racist with a large black audience (many of whom, i'm sure, are probably also biracial) making the implication that they need him to tell them who's black and who isn't.

it's pants-on-head stupid, no matter how they try to spin it

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Bingo, he's trying to discourage them from voting. He's using one of his common strategies of looking for a reason an opponent is popular and saying whatever that reason is is untrue. Apparently it being something immutable like ethnicity is no object to a dumbass like him.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Because large swaths of his voter base (and party in general) are inherently racist so attacking from this angle resonates best with them.

Also, when this is his biggest vector of attack against someone that should let you know exactly how much they have on the table

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

I think he just wants to talk about her race, and this way of talking about it (in his little worm filled brain) makes black people not like her.

He's so racist he doesn't realize most other people aren't
