Interesting take on comparability vs performance. I gotta imaging capturing user data and sending to a cloud collector is also a big culprit.

The 5900X has 12 cores, 24 threads is not the same as 24 cores. I have a similar system, 12900K 16 cores, I don't think it's painfully slow at opening applications.

There are many applications that don't scale with core count, they are designed to run on a single core and are only affected by core clock speed.
