Allowing spaces and possibly special characters in a field where no valid input requires them? That's a fucking 50dkp minus! And a SQL injection waiting to happen. But more importantly: 50dkp minus.

"Yes that is my Email"@abc is a valid e-mail address, I'm pretty sure.

I mean, most mail providers will not allow you to register that, and most registration forms will reject such an e-mail address, but the spec allows it.

Technically, you are correct. Which is the best kind of correct. Just for shits and giggles, I tried to create such an address on my own self-hosted mail server. It wouldn't let me do it, and didn't know what to do with the quotation marks at all. So there's that. Damn you, reality!

Stalw.art allowed me to create an email with spaces. Thunderbird also allowed me to send to the address, even though it has a warning symbol and says "[...] is not a valid email address".
And to my surprise it was also delivered sucessfully.

Edit: I also wanted to see if Lemmy allowed spaced emails. It does not :(
