A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The best ones are thoughts that many people can relate to and they find something funny or interesting in regular stuff.

Rules

In the show South Park, Stan/Kyle roughly represent the ideals the writers see themselves as striving for, while Cartman is who they subconsciously want to be (infosec.pub)

Stan and Kyle are indeed based on Trey and Matt, as well as their families. That've stated that much. But I don't really see how you came to the second hypothesis. I've never seen any indication of that.
