Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

What I've used so far:

Ubuntu
KDE neon
Linux Mint
Debian

I don't really like the MacOS feel, so things like ElementaryOS are not an option. I'm eyeing Pop!_OS though, but maybe there are less known distros that are worth a try. Suggestions?

That treasurer story was also just one of several shitty stories, though. Other dumb things they've done in the past years:

Let their certificates expire twice and told their users to "fix" it by setting back their system clocks.
Ship the proprietary FreeOffice by default (before backlash made them introduce a selection dialog in the installer).
Recently, the Manjaro Cinnamon Community Edition decided to ship the proprietary Vivaldi Browser by default. That is not a decision made by the official Manjaro distribution, but I still feel like that represents the general direction you should expect. And personally, I would want my distribution to at least reserve the right to audit the web browser that they recommend to me.
