What I don't understand about the ending is this, if anyone has hypotheses (or knows from the books):
spolier
Why do they project a green world in the helmet of those who go out? Doesn't it defeat the purpose?::Spoiler Spoiler:: The theory is, is that when someone goes out to clean, they’re completely stunned in amazement how green and full of “life” outside looks - considering they’ve been seeing a dead world their whole lives within the silo. This is what drives them to clean, they think they need to show everyone what they see in their visor so they clean the sensor.
Now I get it! Cheers :)
To add to what willmo said there was a part in episode 9 where they saw a "video" on the computer screen and were completely in shock as to what it even was. No one in the Silo has seen a live video before so it must seem like real life or even magic. It would be pretty easy to fool anyone leaving the Silo.
