I haven't been able to figure out how to repeat this bug yet but this is the second time it has happened.

Edit: it appears to be an issue when rotating the app back into portrait from landscape. I was able to repeat it multiple times by doing that.

Still don't know what triggers it. But glad to see I'm not the only one.
