It just wouldn't sound the same, if you simply laid your arm on the keys...
It's thematic.
Any real piano (i.e. not some synthesiser board) will definitely make different sounds to differing levels of pressure and stroke speed.
I mean, fair point, but I'm still not convinced the componist figured out hastily turning around and pressing your butt cheeks onto the keys really sounds better than slamming your arm down. Like, I'm pretty sure this instruction is for comedic effect when playing in front of an audience...
