Tech giants could face billions of dollars in fines for failing to tackle disinformation under proposed Australian laws, which a watchdog on Monday said would bring "mandatory" standards to the little-regulated sector.

The cute thing about this is that there are no big fines for political parties, media pundits and companies, or influencers producing and disseminating disinformation โ€” but the tech companies will get fined if they don't stop it spreading on their platforms.
