I don't mean to sound like entitled or anything but I happily and immediately paid $20 for this app when it came out. And there were a ton of updates and now it has completely stopped. And while that worked for sybc before with Reddit. It's not acceptable here with how often Lemmy is upgrading and changing. This app is almost unusable with how many small things are beginning to get broken. Just look through this community to see everyone complaining about the various bugs and issues that are now cropping up with. Lemmy me upgrades. A month ago the developer posted about a beta that almost no one has access to and we have heard nothing since. Really don't appreciate this tbh. And I'm considering cutting my losses all together here as there are other apps that are developing way more and that i would rather support

This happened often with Sync for Reddit.

The dev would be away for a while then come back with a big update to functionality and a number of bugs fixed.

Lemmy itself is still not a mature platform and is a moving target when third party app devs are trying to keep up with the changes.

And if I recall correctly this is a side project for him so updates are not as regular as people expect.

Yeah, this was a good platform and model for reddit because it was mostly stable, lemmy is rapidly changing and evolving.

This is my biggest issue here. And it also worked fine with how much cheaper the app was before. I didn't mind him working on this as a side project. But between subscriptions and large fees, I just don't understand how we've seen a total lack of development or pause on development here, especially when we're reaching such a juncture where there are broken things about this app.

Imo its kinda fucked to have a subscription model but not be updated even semi close to often.

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I hear you but I've been paying out for the subscription features and keeping an eye on their uptime.

Is there something in particular you were waiting for me to add / fix? Cheers

It's also relatively tiny so a bit unreasonable to expect things to be updated daily.

I'm not really seeing any major issues anyway - what is so broken that OP is so annoyed about? Only thing im aware of is the Instances button not working, which yeah that's true. Not really a major issue though?

Go ahead and look at this community and all the other posts about broken issues. And look at how much more have been cropping up as lemmy gets further and farther along with being updated but sync does not

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Just repeating my previous comment. Was there something in particular you were waiting for?

cheers

Another small issue is that search for communities doesnt work unless the community you search for is already loaded in the list.

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Logged, will aim to fix for the next release.

While we're on the subject. When I'm submitting a post and choosing the community I almost always want to be searching instead of scrolling my list. Could it ever be an optional feature that tapping the community field automatically pulls up the search and my keyboard? Minor in the grand scheme of things of course.

Also, I'm sure you've seen but Scaled and Controversial aren't selectable sorting algorithms in the list.

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Instead of tapping the search at the top?

[โ€“] can@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago

Yeah, I have a very large phone and small hands, like I said, very minor, low priority thing. Please fix up the markup first such as the superscript and adding subscript first.

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

This was the impression I had too and I managed to fix the instance issue remotely after reports came in.

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Was there something I missed? The dec update added support for the .19 lemmy changes.

Cheers

[โ€“] can@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You missed adding the Scaled and Controversial sort options to the drop-down list.

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Will patch that tomorrow. Cheers

[โ€“] can@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Thanks for your continued work. This is still the best app and fixing these little rough edges will make it that much better.

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

If there's anything else let me know!

[โ€“] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 8 months ago

Those are all the main ones off the top of my head but I'll think about it.

[โ€“] ArtificialLink@yall.theatl.social 15 points 9 months ago (1 children)

And if I recall correctly this is a side project for him so updates are not as regular as people expect.

That's kinda bs imo given how heavily they have monetized this version compared to the last.

I was fine having a very low amount of updates and expectation of that because the app was really cheap before and reddit was fairly stable. But now they want to charge significantly more and have subscription models. And I think it's kind of unacceptable for them to walk away this much or this long. At the very least they should communicate more.

[โ€“] grayman@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

My bet is that Dawson was younger and interested in a better app. Probably in college or right out. He had plenty of time and wasn't making a lot of money. He's maybe got a wife and kids now. I'm sure he makes really good money at a real job too. The side hustle is something he remembers being fun but now it's a crappy low paying contract gig. Now it's a side hustle with diminishing returns.

The best thing he could do is just admit he doesn't want to do it anymore. Maybe he's not ready to do that though. Definitely the passion isn't there anymore, but the nostalgia is still there.

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It's definitely much harder juggling things as I get older. And you were right, I was fresh out of uni last time and now I'm 34 :/

[โ€“] grayman@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Family first! I thank you for what you've done for reddit and sync for lemmy. The app still works great for me. I hope you find happiness in your work and I accept whatever decision you make to continue this at whatever pace suits you. It's been really fun watching your efforts and enjoying the fruits of your labor over the last decade.
