Well, if you want to get all mathemagical about it, a horsey moves as a mash-up of:

formula because lemmy doesn't do latex

That's right, horses move by doing what's known as the vector dance, in any direction they please. Checkmate, math style! ๐Ÿด

and if you look closely that looks like the kanji for ground ๅœŸ twice, so you know that they can't fly

I'm not a mathematician but that vector looks imaginary to me. Face it, it's not true. Someone made it up.
