Man this teetering is so annoying. Either be like the repubs and go full israel or force the ceasefire. Walking this line only serves to piss off the core democrat voterbase and there's no way dude can win on anti-trumpers alone.

I am OK with someone walking the Grey area of issues... things are complex and don't always have a quick and easy answer. He supports Israel's sovereignty and right to protect itself, he doesn't support indiscriminate bombing in the exercise of those rights... seems reasonable to me.

He supports Israel's sovereignty and right to protect itself, he doesn't support indiscriminate bombing in the exercise of those rights...

Except in the current discourse, those are mutually exclusive ideas. Not supporting every measure Israel has taken is automatically branded as antisemitic. Watch literally anyone being interviewed on the news. No nuance. Asked over and over again if they condemn hamas. That's it.

I get what youre saying and in most circumstances nuance is absolutely required. But this just comes off like he wants to push for the ceasefire since thats what the base wants but the donors dont want that. So hes doing these things like puffing his chest out and sending stern letters while giving them lots of funding.

With a topic as divisive as this I feel hes gonna lose the support of one of those groups and might as well just take the plunge and lose it.

If I view it through the lense of politics and reelection I couldn't agree with you more. If I give politicians the benefit of the doubt and assume they are acting in good faith I still believe having a nuanced approach is often necessary if not the best option.

Force a ceasefire? It's pretty easy to stop Israel (political pressure, withold aid, funding, etc). How does someone propose to get Hamas to stop being a-holes and shooting at Israel? Walls didn't work, a dmz didn't work, and it takes both sides to stop fighting for the conflict to end. And both have pledged that destroying the other is a hill to (literally) die on.

Stop encroaching on their land, starving Palestinians, and accepting a two state solution would go pretty far in getting Hamas to deescalate.
