Could you set Lemmy to open external links in a new window/tab? Especially on the desktop it is annoying to always have to remember to click the link with the middle mouse button, or just in conjunction with ctrl.

Yep, a lot of sites are completely scatterbrained, and you have no idea when its going to open a new link and not. The predictability of it never doing this, and breaking accessibility is why we removed it.

Plus its not difficult in the slightest to click and hold, middle click, right click -> new tab, etc.

It may be more difficult than you think for certain individuals with differing abilities.

The option to change this behavior in the setting somewhere can give everyone the experience they are looking for. Perhaps that should be pursued? ๐Ÿ˜„

It can get tiring to do it with every post.

It's fine if you keep in the same tab by default, but would you consider adding an option?

I'm just used to quickly left click then new tab, it's the first option, there's no miss and it's hella cool

Never by default, as it breaks accessibility. I'd accept a pr for adding it as a setting tho. Also tho how is middle clicking more tiring?
