Well I'm not so sure about that. Just give it time, someone will find a way to monetize it.
The problem isnβt necessarily people monetizing a platform, itβs forcing everyone to participate in the monetization whether they want to or not.
If there was a hypothetical Lemmy instance that was ad-supported or even subscription-based, that would be fine. Because we always have the choice to go to a different instance.
