What was the deal with him? He is being martyred as a hero journalist since his assassination by Saudi Arabia.

The problem I have is that his father, Adnan Khashoggi, was an arms dealer that worked closely with the CIA. So my assumption is that he must have something going on with him as well. I don't know what though.

I think Citations Needed also once covered this topic where mainstream journalists collectively show a strong reaction when "one of their own" gets merked while at the same time being disgustingly apathetic to journalists not part of their clique like the Palestenian woman who was shot and killed by IDF. (That sadly does not narrow it down at all.)
