So weird how people living under western regimes are more concerned about Chinese state control and monitoring than their own. If you live in a western country then your concern is that any western piece of technology is controlled and monitored by the NSA. But that's just too complex an idea for you to wrap your head around I guess. Screeching China bad is your peak intellectual ability clearly.

[–] s20@lemmy.ml 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh, I care about Five (Seven, Nine) Eyes every bit as much as I care about China, I assure you. But in a thread about a Chinese company's new tech, it would be a bit weird to complain about NSA data mining. Kinda off topic, if you see what I mean.

great retort there bud. you sure showed him.

seriously go back to reddit if all you got is childish insults.

[–] BlueBockser@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago

There weren't even any insults there, unless you think being a Lemmygrad user is one. Come to think of it, you may be onto something...

On a serious note: They're also spreaing Russian propaganda about the war in Ukraine, which is enough to discredit them anyway. Did I say war? Of course I mean SpEcIaL MiLiTaRy fAiLuRe!

[–] ExFed@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Why is that weird? Western governments are generally bound by constitutional agreements to not utilize that information against their citizens. That's not to say they don't do shady stuff with that information, but getting "disappeared" is more the butt of a Hillary Clinton joke than it is an actual reality for Western citizens ... unless you've really REALLY pissed off Hillary Clinton.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You should really read up on the revelations that we have from Snowden if you believe all that. Meanwhile, you should let people like Manning and Assange know about not having to worry that you'll be disappeared and tortured if you say something your regime doesn't like.

[–] ExFed@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Ahh, yes, because they pissed off the Deep State, which is ultimately controlled by Hillary Clinton. Sorry, forgot about that one.

/s ... if it wasn't obvious

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because they published war crimes committed your regime, but let's just ignore that and make an idiotic straw man instead. 👏

[–] ExFed@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And your argument is cherry-picked. Which is worse?

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's not, but you keep on digging there.

[–] ExFed@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Right. Okay, I'll do your homework for you...

You're claiming that a handful of people pointed out some things Western governments were doing that were illegal according to said governments' legal governing documents, but because of the way they did it, those governments (and citizens) are pissed off at them.

I'm saying the systematic oppression of the free press, human rights, and the decades-long genocide of Tibetans and Uyghurs are perfectly legal according to the PRC.

These aren't even comparable. Keep trying.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Buddy, your country has an entire torture camp in Guantanamo on the land your regime annexed from Cuba where you disappear people in a middle of the night without any due process. Your country passed laws like the Patriot Act that allow the government to disappear citizens.

Meanwhile, this is what China liberated Tibet from, and your Uyghur conspiracy theory has been thoroughly debunked many times.

You're right, these aren't even remotely comparable. Keep trying.

[–] ExFed@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That history article you linked goes as far as the 1950s.

Who's debunked it? The CCP? Are they still sticking to the "reeducation centers" line? Have you been "reeducated"?

There are some perverse arguments that let Gitmo exist. It's a heated debate around whether the US Constitution extends to non-citizens. As usual, Wikipedia has a fantastic summary.

... which is a debate that can occur in a diverse nation with a free press. Do you feel threatened because you're arguing against Western Democracy on the Internet, a product of that same Western "regime"?

Didn't think so.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

LMFAO imagine defending actual torture camp your regime runs while bleating about see see pee. 🤡

[–] ExFed@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Not defending. Admitting that evil things have been done to 780 people while at Gitmo. It's a problem, and we're working to fix it.

But imagine being unable to admit there are millions of detainees in Xinjiang.

That's the difference between Western Democracy and an an authoritarian ethnostate. There's no way to fix something you won't admit exists.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

LMFAO working to fix it. Sure buddy. Just like you're working to fix all your migrant concentration camps for kids you've got on the border. That's your western "democracy" in action. Concentration camps for kids. That's what you're all about.

Meanwhile, the claim that China is detaining millions of people in Xinjiang is so completely absurd that only an utter imbecile would believe it. Let's just look at how much space would you actually need to intern one million people.

This is a photo of Rikers Island, New York City's biggest prison. The actual size of a facility interning ten thousand people.

According to Wikipedia, "The average daily inmate population on the island is about 10,000, although it can hold a maximum of 15,000." Let's assume this is a Xinjiang detention camp, holding ten to fifteen thousand people. How many of these would it take to hold one million people?

Let's do some math:

Rikers Size Rikers Prisoners One Million Uyghurs Size
413.2 acres (0.645 square miles) 10,000 to 15,000 43 to 64 square miles

In reality, one million people would probably take more space; all the supposed detention camps we see are much less dense than Rikers.

For comparison, San Francisco is 47 square miles. Amsterdam is 64 square miles. You'd literally need detention camps that total the size of San Francisco or Amsterdam to intern one million Uyghurs. It'd be like looking at a map of California. There's Los Angeles. There's San Diego. And look, there's San Francisco Concentration City with its one million Uyghurs.

Literally visible to the naked eye from space.

The fact that you actually believed this bit of propaganda shows just how incredibly credulous you are. 😂

[–] ExFed@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Literally visible to the naked eye from space.

Yes. They are.

Welcome to the wide world of OSINT 🙃

So what's the score? I haven't been keeping track. Is the home team winning?

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml -2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I see reading comprehension isn't one of your strong suites. Keep rereading what I wrote until you comprehend the size these supposed camps would have to be. I love how you just keep embarrassing yourself here without even realizing it. Zero self awareness.

I also love how you think that any building shot from satellite must be a detention facility. Maybe send me a dm sometime, cause I have a nice bridge I could sell you.

[–] ExFed@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's hard realizing that it's a messy world full of people who do bad things to each other for stupid reasons. Just remember:

Roses are red.

The sky is blue.

Single-party authoritarian ethnostates leverage the absence of a free press to hide mass atrocities against ethnic minorities.

Acceptance is the first step to letting go of copium.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml -4 points 1 year ago

Really should take your own advice here, cause you're drowning in copium bud. Once you accept that you live in a despotic regime that's a danger to the whole world maybe you can start doing something about it.

[–] frippa@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

If it's western it's a country but if it's Chinese/not western allinged it's a regime?

[–] Ullebe1@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I generally call democratic countries "countries" and I occasionally call undemocratic countries "regimes".

Yes, most (all?) Western countries are democracies. Yes, China is not a democracy. What is your point?

[–] frippa@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Name something bad you think China has done, the US has done that but 10x worse

[–] chaogomu@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Harvesting prisoner organs to give to the wealthy/party members.

Executing people for things they've said.

Quartering party loyalists in Uyghur homes, particularly the forced co-habitation of Uyghur women with male party loyalists.

The list goes on because China is a totalitarian dictatorship, and the US, for all its many, many, faults, is not.

The main difference is that the US is mostly trying to be better, and China is actively embracing the crimes against humanity.

[–] frippa@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
  1. ah yes, the old Falun Gong lie

  2. patriot act, red scare, CIA killing journalists etc

  3. the entire united States of America is built on stolen land

As I said.

2; Some buzzwords that you don't seem to understand the meaning of, with some conspiracy theory nonsense thrown in.

3; yup. US history is full of horrible shit, but we're trying to be better. Well most of us. China is not trying to be better.

The US once engaged in genocide, and China is using that past to justify several ongoing genocides.

The US has often failed to fully live up to its ideals of freedom and equality, and China uses that to justify not having any freedom or equality.

The US holds freedom of speech as sacrosanct, often to the point where harmful ideologies are given platforms, China uses secret trials to jail people for the study of their own heritage.

The point being, China fucking sucks for anyone who isn't a rich, ethnic Han, flawlessly loyal to the CCP.

[–] frippa@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Ok Biden bot, the red scare (a documented historical fact) is now a conspiracy I guess

[–] ExFed@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The only one arguing against documented historical facts and ongoing reality in this thread is you. The PRC isn't some magical place where people don't do awful shit to each other. They're just really good at covering it up.

[–] chaogomu@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Generally, dictatorships are called regimes. Thus, China certainly qualifies as a regime.

Hell, the actual dictionary definition is as follows;

Regime, noun;

A government, especially an oppressive or undemocratic one.

[–] frippa@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago

So the US is a regime, got it
