iirc Google Fiber was supposed to roll out in a lot more places, but once they realized the cost they basically killed it outside of a few cities and suburbs.
That's fair. After looking around for a bit, there was some pressure on Google Fiber to cut back because the subscriber count wasn't growing as anticipated either.
As far as Google product potentially on life-support, I think they did better than a lot of others. Over the last few years they have been deploying 5/8Gbit service and continuing to expand their service area within some markets.
