I actually didn't mind the monorail that ran around Sydney CBD before it was ripped down.

I don't think that monorails are any worse than light trains, they are basically the same for the user.

The only problem that monorail has is that a new network of them needs special technicians, train production and basically a bunch of non-standard tools. Light rail is compatible with any existing train networks and it's easier to find personnel etc.
