As we all try to settle into this new community just a friendly reminder to upvote and support your fellow community members! The only way new content will get to the front page is if people upvote it. AND it helps encourage people to submit more content.

Same with comments, upvote people to encourage discussion and participation. Let's build a supportive and active community together!

What is the difference between boost and an upvote?

[–] jcb2016_@mastodon.social 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

@1chemistdown @AnotherPerson Boost is like a retweet on Twitter it shares to your own followers on your instance and upvote is like Reddit. You like there post comment/reply

Also, I don't think an upvote will be 'saved' anywhere for you to reference later? So if you do want to circle back on the content, I guess 'boost' is the way to go. I haven't figured out how to 'un-boost' something though

[–] jcb2016_@mastodon.social 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@kobra @AnotherPerson @1chemistdown Yep the boost is only for Mastodon. The upvote is on the instance. You have to manually go there and upvote it. Mastsdon and other instances can only comment, reply and view post. You can't create, upvote etc..

That explains why I don't see an option to boost.

[–] 1chemistdown@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Press boost once, it boosts, twice it unboosts

How to share the posts to my mastodon profile? I don’t have any followers here, so I don’t think boost would do any good.

[–] jcb2016_@mastodon.social 3 points 1 year ago

@kosmicpulse @AnotherPerson @1chemistdown I don't think you can. I think you can only share within an instance to somebody on that instance. I actually haven't tried. instance to instance but you can't do instance to another server. The only way is to get the url of the article/message grab the url and put it in a browser for somebody else and it will take them to what you where doing. I'm not really sure but I think thats kinda how it works

Upvote is just an upvote. Boost pushes the content to your followers.

Cool. For all the people I’ve been hitting boost on, congratulations! I have zero followers. I also hit the upvote too.
