The rate at which the communities, like PCMR, are being added is both astonishing and satisfying. Sadly, if things really do continue there are going to be bills to pay and server fires to fight and I hope the server owners get the support/funds/patience they need to carry the load.
Yeah it'll be interesting to see as lemmy grows how costs will affect different deployments. I could definitely see larger deployments turning to ads to support cost. But at the same time Wikipedia is able to do it with minimal ads so there is always hope. An award system where you pay for awards like reddit had would be interesting but multiple deployments may make that more difficult to regulate.
