In Mexico's city of Oaxaca, the capital of Oaxaca with almost 4,000,000 residents, the baseline cost of living is $20/day. If two people in a home are working, you'll now cover expenses every month with a little to save. It was raised from $10/day which was only enough to get by, so at least it's something. It's been 14 years since the minimum wage was raised by $0.70/hour in the US on the other hand.
