In hindsight a smaller canvas might have made it a bit busier, but I’ll tell you what: I’m impressed the effort has been translated over from rPlace. Run this one again in a year or so and I can imagine it being way more popular.

Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of white. r/place loses all the white within minutes

It's not like Reddit has over 1000x more users than Lemmy or anything

Well, that's their point. With a smaller population we want a smaller canvas.

I think it has more to do with the fact that each pixel can be highlighted to see who added it to the Lemmy version. This discourages writing over someone else's content.

I do plan on running one next year, possibly with a smaller canvas

but with the amount of people interested after the event concluded, we might stick with the same size for next year, but who knows right now 😉

Make sure you're in the Lemmy community (!canvas@toast.ooo) and the Matrix space so you don't miss it!
